Soroptimist International of Hancock County Area (SIHCA) was founded on March 2, 2013. Our membership includes a diverse group of dynamic women committed to improving the lives of women and girls both locally and throughout the world as part of Soroptimist International of the Americas.
Highlights of Club’s Activities
Women’s Empowerment Emporium – Our major project, this event occurs every third Saturday and provides taxable items for low-income families in the Hancock County area. Monthly this program is a hand-up for over 50 families, and has been constant since November of 2013. We’ve only canceled one time in the 11 years the program has been in place.
Human Trafficking Awareness – In January of 2024, we held our first annual human trafficking awareness event, in conjunction with the University of Findlay Pharmacy college, local and state law enforcement, and medical professionals from various organizations. We hope this will become an ongoing program to raise awareness in our community about this very unfortunately large problem that is very prevalent along the I-75 corridor.
Education Awards – We provide a Live your Dream award, the Virginia Wagner award, the Ruby award, and Hancock Star award annually to deserving recipients at the Celebration of Women awards ceremony. We usually hold this ceremony joint with the Kenton/Hardin County club in March.
Fundraising – We’ve held regular quarter auctions in the past. Our latest fundraising adventures have included cold hard cash raffles, restaurant fundraisers, Hundred-X, and other similar fundraisers.
Club Meetings – Business meetings are held immediately following the Emporium on the 3rd Saturday of the month at 11:15AM. For more information, please contact ContactUs@sihancockarea.org or see our Facebook page.
