SI Monroe County
President Katie Burroughs
Business meeting: 3rd Thursday of the month
Soroptimist International of Monroe County (SIMC) was chartered in 1981. We have 33 Members included 3 Charter Members (Ilah Mae Brancheau, Kathy DuVall & Pricilla Hutra), current District III Secretary, Gail Hutra and former Midwestern Region Governor, current SIA Board Member and Dream Big Campaign Ambassador, Vivian Walczesky.
For over 40 years, SIMC has given volunteer service and monetary support to Paula’s House (a substance abuse home and program for women), New Beginnings Mercy House (shelter and supplies for unwed mothers), Family Counseling and Shelter Services (Sunrise House – A Domestic Violence Shelter for Woman) and several others.
We hold several fundraisers which include Ladies Shopping Night Out in November, Purse Bingo in February, Daily Pick 3 in June, and HundredX.
Our major event of the year is our Annual Celebration of Women which is held in March at Monroe Golf and Country Club. A Virginia Wagner Award, two (2) Girls Youth Leadership Awards, and five (5) Live Your Dream Awards have been presented at this event honoring women and girls in the community who are furthering their education. In addition to these awards we also gave three (3) Helen Applin Awards (recognizing women who have volunteered their time and efforts in the community and have never been recognized before).
SIMC also has Friendship Links with Soroptimist clubs in Moldova and Japan.
